What we store on your device
Jareeda keeps a small amount of information in your browser's local storage. It never leaves your device unless a section below says otherwise, and none of it identifies you personally.
- jareeda.theme — whether you chose the light or dark reading view.
- jareeda.locale — which language edition you last chose, used only to offer you the other edition.
- jareeda.location — an approximate city and country, plus an expiry date, so the “Near you” section can work. Set only if you use that feature.
Approximate location
If you open the “Near you” section, we ask a third-party service (ipwho.is) to estimate your city and country from your IP address. Your IP address is visible to that service as part of the request. We store only the resulting city and country name, on your device, for a limited period.
If you explicitly grant precise location permission, your browser gives us coordinates which we use once to pick a nearby city. We do not store the coordinates and we do not transmit them to our servers.
We honour the browser Do Not Track signal: if it is set, we skip location detection entirely.
Analytics and advertising
We use Google Tag Manager, which may load Google Analytics, and Google AdSense to fund the site. These services set their own cookies and may process your IP address and browsing activity. They are third-party controllers for that processing.
Where consent is required, these services load only after you allow them. You can change your choice at any time from the cookie settings link in the footer.

News content from third parties
Some headlines are supplied by external news APIs (NewsAPI.org, NewsAPI.ai and NewsData.io). Requests to those services come from your browser, so your IP address is visible to them. We do not send them any information about you.
What you send us
The contact form, the newsletter form and article comments are currently handled entirely in your browser. Nothing you type into them is transmitted to us or stored on any server, and comments you post are visible only to you and disappear when you reload.
This will change when we connect these forms to a mail service. This policy will be updated before that happens, and the change will be dated below.
Global Privacy Control
If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a binding opt-out: analytics and advertising storage stay denied, we request non-personalised advertising, and we do not show you a consent banner asking you to repeat a choice you have already made.
This applies regardless of any earlier choice stored on your device. Our declaration is published at /.well-known/gpc.json.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, to object to processing, and to data portability. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Because we store almost nothing about you, the fastest way to erase what exists is to clear your browser storage for this site. For anything else, write to us using the contact page.
Children
Jareeda is a general-audience news publication and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from them.
Changes to this policy
We date every revision. Material changes will be announced on the site before they take effect.
